Minnesota Roller Girls

Enjoy great skating and rolling performances from the Minnesota Roller Girls and Dagger Dolls

Roller league There are many sporting activities in Minnesota that will keep you entertained. One of the more interesting one is the skating performances of the Minnesota Roller Girls league. They give an experience you will never forget.

The league is based in Minneapolis, and is the brainchild of the Donnelly sisters. They established the league in 2004 with the initial six members. Since then the league has grown tremendously and currently has more than seventy skaters and several volunteers including a number of referees and coaches.

The league is the first ever flat-track roller derby league in the history of Minnesota. It also happens to be one of the pioneer flat-track leagues to hold a bout in the United States. As if that is not enough, they have another feather in their cap of being the first league to have a professional arena for practices and bouts.

All members of the Minnesota Roller Girls League are volunteers meaning they are not paid any wages or salaries. The league only provides them with insurance coverage for practices and bouts, and caters for the maintenance of the practice grounds. All the amateur skaters buy their own gear and uniforms and also get involved with all the work that keeps the league moving.

The announcers, referees and production staff are also not paid and do not benefit in anyway from the team wins but support the league out of pure passion for the game. You too, can get involved as there are various ways through which you can help in the promotion and development of the league.

The home of the Minnesota Roller girls’ league is the Roy Wilkins Auditorium. It has a capacity of close to four thousand spectators and is always full during league bouts. In order to remain eligible for bouting, all the amateur skaters have to attend at least half of the two hour practices that take place three times a week. A portion of the proceeds raised from the entry charges during bouts is donated to local charities in addition to the time that members of the Minnesota Roller Girls.

League spend time taking part in volunteer work during community social events and fundraisers. All these are done as part of the league’s corporate social responsibility.

The league has four teams that are comprised of across section of modern successful and strong females. These teams include; Atomic Bombshells, Dagger Dolls, Garda Belts and the Rockits. The Atomic Bombshells team consists of females who were once casual workers in a nuclear waste plant. Just like atoms in chemical elements, their fusion on the track helps them win. The Dagger Dolls though sweet looking are lethal and an encounters with them always leave teams nursing broken hearts. The Garda Belts or Guardians of Peace, as they are commonly known, stamps with authority during their bouts and are highly respected for their fast paced form of play.

Even though the game looks rough with skaters tumbling on the track, the event remains to be one of the most entertaining and family friendly events. During the evenings a few of the child audience are given an opportunity of taking part in a game on the track. There are also various music bands that play at the bouts as well. So there is an all around entertainment factor with this event. So don’t hesitate to check it out.
