Minnesota history museum Even though the state of Minnesota is synonymous for its lakes, there are other areas that the state also takes pride in. The museums in Minnesota are some of the attractions you need to visit while in the state.

They present you with the grand opportunity to learn more on the history of the region and its natural endowments. There are several museums spread across Minnesota, these museums are in three categories:

Art museums, Historical museums and Science museums. Some of them have provisions for kids who visit so they have fun-filled experiences.

The art museums majorly exhibit artworks from various artists as well as host events that endeavor to promote art and craft in Minnesota. The American Museum of Asmat Art, located in Shoreview in Minnesota is one of the art museums that you can visit and explore the art collections it features. Asmat are said to be a group of semi-nomadic people who inhabit the rain forest and tribal rivers found along the southwestern coast of Irian Jaya in Indonesia. This art museum majors on topics concerning Folk art, tribal, ethnic, rain, and forests. The spectacular Asmat collections within the museum did not come in a day but after a series of exhibitions that are presented twice each year in its galleries and the numerous national art tours, they came to be. The museum also ensures that its permanent collections are well conserved.

Other art museums in Minnesota include; East Polk Heritage Center in Fosston, Charles A Weyerhaeuser Museum in Little Falls, Blue Earth Heritage Center in Mankato and the Arches Museum in Lewiston.

The Bell Museum of Natural History situated in Minneapolis, showcases the wonders of nature and the significance of research and conservation of the natural environment. The main theme in the historical museums is authenticity. The exhibitions portray most of the state’s habitats from the big woods to the numerous lakes.

Other historical museums include; American Wings Air Museum located in St. Paul, Clay County Historical Society, Becker County Historical Society and Carver County Historical Society among many others.

The third category of museums is the science museums category that showcases all that deals with science, Imax, agriculture, dinosaurs, entomology, food and technology. The Science Museum of Minnesota is one of the spectacular places to visit. It has a top of the range collection of artifacts, a state-of-the-art three dimension cinema and a convertible dome omnitheatre. The museum has something for every body no matter their age. It is a great place for all the family members to explore and have fun. You will get the opportunity to cruise the bloodstream superhighway, navigate a virtual towboat down the great Mississippi River.

There are several other science museums in Minnesota that you can explore, they include; American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, Museum of Questionable Medical Devices in St. Paul and the Headwaters Science Center located in Bemidji. These are just but a drop in one of the Minnesota Lakes, there are numerous of museums in the state for you to explore, so get packing and take your imagination with you.
