There are many marathons in Minnesota and they all provide a magnificent family fun activity. Below are some of the renowned marathons in Minnesota.

Minnesota halfmarathon The 13.1 Minneapolis Marathon is the 6th in a series of 8 marathons. Other cities in the series include Boston Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Miami Beach, Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale.

Runners are guided through the major attraction sites in the cities. The race accommodates a maximum of 3000 entrants and is open for walkers and runners making this a spectacular family event.

Registration fees for the race ranges between $55 and $90 depending on the time of registration. One can register online. The event doubles as a fundraiser for a charitable organization that seeks to advance the lives of African children and communities.

The Grandma’s marathon, Half Marathon, 5k and 5-Miller in Duluth, Minnesota was held on Saturday June 9, 2010. Apart from the fun of running, the participants get to enjoy the scenic view provided by the beautiful Lake Superior. The event takes the runners between the two cities of Duluth and Two Harbors. The race is braced with thousands of spectators and competitors with live music for entertainment. Participation is limited to 5,000 and is open for both runner and walkers. The participation fee is $75 and online registration is open on the events website.

The Gift of Life Transplant House Marathon is an annual marathon held in Rochester, Minnesota. It aims to support of the gift of life transplant house which provides reasonably priced quality housing for patients needing organ transplant or bone marrow transplant at the mayo clinic. The race participant can purchase customized T-shirts for the race at the cost of $10 each, and on line registration is also available. The race consists of a 5k run, 5k walk and 2.5k walk that serves as a fun outing for the family, and in turn raises much needed funds for a great cause.

The Minnesota Half Marathon and 5k Marathon guides runners through the beauty that exists alongside the Mississippi river in Saint Paul. It stretches along the river that has many parks which complement the powerful scenery along the course. To complement its scenic beauty, the marathon starts at the lower landing park, which was once a busy landing for steam and boat traffic along the Mississippi river. In the last mile of the race, you are able to see the planes landing an taking off at the St. Paul Airport. Participatory fees range between $45 and $60 depending on the time of registration, and online registration for this marathon is available as well.

So if you like the outdoors and would like to raise money for great causes, take the opportunity to register and participate in a running or walking event that you won’t soon forget. The events are said to be life changing, as some take hours to complete while others can take days. Make sure that if you plan on participating that you wear comfortable clothing that is relative with the weather, and of course wear your most comfortable tennis shoes, you’ll be on your feet for a while.
