Minnesota Biathlon

Enjoy multiple sporting Events at the Minnesota Biathlon

Biathalon Innovation is said is the mother of all creations. It doesn’t call for the sharpest brains to have a superb idea, provided there is a strong will; every idea can be wheeled to the top. This is the root of many innovations that have transformed our lives. Every game that is played during the sporting events has a genesis and so does biathlon.

Before it was introduced in Minnesota, biathlon which means double events was played in the Scandinavian region , where it is actually believed to have originated from. Over the years the game has grown into a must- watch event during the winter Olympics and more young talents are discovered.

Biathlon involves an athlete skiing and shooting. The skiing distance, depending on the race, ranges between six to twenty kilometres. The number of shots can be two or four but the shooting range is standard, fifty kilometres. The shots in the game are made in between the laps. There are various categories of competitions in the biathlon, they include; Sprint, Pursuit, Individual, Mass Start and Relay.

If you are interested in watching a biathlon, your first encounter would be interesting with the individual competition category which is the longest of all the competitions. The participants ski twenty kilometres in four laps with each lap covering a distance of five kilometres and shots taken between the laps. During the competition, you will notice that whenever a competitor misses a shot, there is a one-minute time penalty against a one hundred and fifty penalty lap for missed shots in the other competitions. The 18th of February is the date to mark on your calendar, as this is the day when the Individual competitions are held.

The Minnesota biathlon is an organization that supports the development of biathlons in the state of Minnesota. The organization assists in the formation of local clubs, coordinates the coaching of the game, and organizes camps and regional competitions. If you are interested in becoming a biathlete, there are several biathlon clubs that you can join to sharpen your skills. To start with there are the novice events where the beginners get to learn the basics of a biathlon. All the necessary equipment is supplied by the clubs. One of the most essential components of a biathlon is safety. There are safe range procedures for using the rifles that you’ll learn with the assistance of the safety experts present at each of the clubs.

Some the biathlon clubs you can visit for training information are the Mount Itasca Grand Rapids in Coleraine which has a thirty-point biathlon range, and two and half kilometers of race trails with snowmakers and lights. At the Elk River club there is the four kilometer roller loop and a ten point biathlon range. In Brainerd, the Nisswa North Western Biathlon club has an eight point range with three kilometres of ski trails. It may interest you to know that Bill Meyer, the coach the Nisswa club is also a consultant in range constructions across the country.

The St. Cloud area has the Greystone Biathlon Club which has a twenty point range with fifteen kilometres of ski trails. There is also the Snowflake Nordic Center in Duluth that boasts an eighteen point range. The number of clubs keeps on growing each year and so are the biathlon athletes in Minnesota.
